Digital Communication is sure useful. We are thinking of putting a metal roof on our home so we checked out companies in our area online. Digitally communicated via websites, email and even sent companies a fax of a photo of the front of our home whch shows the roof well.
Of course ultimately such interaciton must happen ofline as they visit our hourse to take measurements and talk to us about our desired results yet it is amazing how much data can be communicated online before the parites involve meet.
I remember the day when television was a big deal. Television started out with no color, just black and white. When I was five our local channels came on at 9am for an hour, went off the air till noon for an hour then came back on in the eveings till around 10pm then stopped broadcasting for the day.
So much has happened in my lifetime. The first transatlantic live broadcast. Imagine seeing events so far away while they happen. Today its common place on Internet. I watched TV as it showed the first man moon landing. “One giant leap…”. Today if something like that would happen many would be chatting about it in real time perhaps even with the astromauts themselves !!
I remember as a child thinking about the things my grandfather lived to see. He’s since long passed on, yet he went from walking everywhere or riding a horse to the automobile, using the analog landline telephone and yes, color television, the man on the moon (which he really didn’t believe happened).
Today we expect things to change tomorrow. We expect the new ipod, youtube, and we may be surprised that a Black Man is President of the United States but we aren’t shocked. It was, for this generation a possibiltiy. Just a few hundred years ago black men and the black race were all slaves.
There are still milestones to reach and equality to seek as PROP 8 shows. The success of the past should encourage us to contnue the struggle for equality, individuality, sovereignty and a shared abundance. We may take three steps forward and two steps back yet we should never forget that even this still gives us one step closer to a better world.
one step closer,
