Plagiarism

What is Plagiarism

Many people think of plagiarism as copying another’s work, or borrowing someone else’s original ideas. But terms like “copying” and “borrowing” can disguise the seriousness of the offense:

According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to “plagiarize” means

1.: to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one’s own
2.: to use (another’s production) without crediting the source
3.: to commit literary theft
4.: to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.
5.: In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else’s work and lying about it afterward.

But can words and ideas really be stolen?

According to U.S. law, the answer is yes. The expression of original ideas is considered intellectual property, and is protected by copyright laws, just like original inventions. Almost all forms of expression fall under copyright protection as long as they are recorded in some way (such as a book or a computer file).

All of the following are considered plagiarism:

turning in someone else’s work as your own
copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit
failing to put a quotation in quotation marks
giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation
changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit
copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not
Most cases of plagiarism can be avoided, however, by citing sources. Simply acknowledging that certain material has been borrowed, and providing your audience with the information necessary to find that source, is usually enough to prevent plagiarism.

It is easy to plagiarize. It is simply easy to some users to use an old known joke and turn them into pictures.
But it is neither original nor fair. It is bad writing and the lamest way of being un-creative.
It definitely does not deserve to be chosen as an editor’s pick, because that would mean that the editor’s support plagiarism.

To the most writers, plagiarism is the biggest thread since the invention of words. It’s stealing someone else’s thoughts.
It has nothing to do with creativitiy and it has nothing to do with writing and tooning.

Taking a joke or a phrase and changing it in a clever way is considered a reconceptualisation, and if it is done well, none that would cause any complaints.
But I would make sure that you are really doing a great job or you could find yourself facing an angry audience.
In example: I’m using the “V” character from the famous comic book “V for Vendetta” from Allan Moore. The Idea for “V” is by Alan Moore. who is probably one of the best writers in the world.
It is not my idea. But I did the character myself and did not steal it from a movie scene or from the comic book. I reuse him as a symbol for freedom.
I reconceptualize him to deliver certain messages. But he is not my idea and I do not claim credit for what he stands.
In fact, I recommend to read the series by alan moore. It is fantastic, awesome and breathtaking.
The movie “V for Vendetta” was based on that series. But it was a horrible example of how the hollywood movie industry destroys great ideas just to conform with certain standards. The directors didn’t get the point of the comic, these brother’s never do. It’s not the first time they destroyed a book or a comic by making a movie out of it.

Try to be original and figure out your own punchline.
A cartoon doesn’t have to be hillarious funny. Many cartoons serve as tools to deliver information, a certain message or to educate the audience in one way or the other.

Stay clean fellow toondooers. Develop your own humor. Do not plagiarize.

Sometimes the first duty of intelligent men is the restatement of the obvious.

3D Chopper Showcase

…and from a different perspective….

Once upon a time, I was pretty heavy into meshing 3 D Objects. That’s not too long ago, but nine month without computer or internet change a lot of things.
This Chopper mesh above is, completely and without exception, created in Rhinoceros 3D. An actually …pretty expensive and somewhat difficult but awesome program to built 3D objects with. I had a lot of fun doing this one. I finished three chopper models and I still have one on one of my many disks waiting for completion. I am not sure if I will ever end up doing that, though. Leave a comment if you like it, and check out my other posts!

Thanks

The big black hole ate my mind.

My alter ego decided to hate you for a while.
Well, not really, but I feel kind of disconnected from the world right now and I really don’t like this feeling.
The black hole opened up it’s enourmous mouth in my mind and swallowed all my emotions at once.

It’s not always a bad thing, though.

I decided to publish some details about me.

Real Name: I would not tell you people my real name even if you would pay me money for it.
Age: Always young. Physically 30.
Zodiac: Gemini
Origins: Difficult story. Let’s say…Europe…makes it easier.
Occupation: None right now. I AM a photographer, though.
A psychological trainer (also called Personal Trainer)for a time and I always considered myself an artist.
Eyes: Blue, grey
Hair: Blonde by nature, black with red streaks right now.

How did I find toondoo: Google.

Plans for the future: To live in a small cottage, have some children. Fulfill my dreams and have more time and motivation in general.

Any questions? Just ask.

Yours

Lu.

Tic Tac

Tic tac tic tac
Do you hate what you hear?
Tic tac tic tac
Do you hate what you fear?

How cold is your arrogance,
quoting bullshit free of common sense?
Do you believe in yourselves?
Do you believe in yourselves?

picturing the world with a cracked lense -
suffocating all knowledge and chance.

…just happens in my head…

Tic tac tic tac
What do you see?
Tic tac tic tac
Are you able to feel?

This time is dead.
Just the noise of your steps
Is perverting innocent heads.

[Innocence is a guilt.]

Tic tac tic tac
This clock is without time
Tic tac tic tac
This clock is ringing and lieing

You worship your fears -
for thousands of years.
How long, do you think
will this clock tick?

thought control

suffocate -
smother, stifle strangle me…
tear my soul apart and
put my mouth behind your bars.

Has it ever occured to you people that you’re burning me?
I feel like my mind and brain is tied up on a stake and the flames of
your ‘moral’ attitude is burning deep into my consciousness.

WORDS don’t make this world more miserable.
WORDS only describe the world we live in.
WORDS reflect what is really going on,
they do not change your child and turn it evil…

Your world is not the world I see
Yours is dark and gloomy
scary, chilling, creepy, eerie -
While mine is blissful, blithe
cheerful, chipper, convival, exultant -
and yes…it’s gay.

You’re not grown up yet.
Go on, burn all those yet unwritten books.
Destroy creativity.
Destroy opportunities.
Create your zombies.

\Toon\

It’s not a toon as you know it, since it lacks a punchline. But I had to do it.
Artwork is by me.
