After a blog post query by toondooer rkrekha, we decided to share the process behind blocking of an inappropriate toon.

It’s no secret anyway!

And what better way to explain a concept or a process, than with ToonDoo! So here it is, the answer to the query by rkrekha and others who wonder how that thumbs down sign came to be, on some toons…

In recent times, there have been a lot of wonderful (if cliched!) cartoon strips from Plash about day-to-day inanities in home and school life.

And, they all end with a quintessential, inimitable “Toing”…

When I asked him what exactly it was, he responded with a typical mimicked Sound Effect. For Plash, it is almost a personal MacGuffin, something that he uses with great effect, to punch home a point. In situations like this, the best response is sometimes silence, and as silence is difficult to depict in a ToonDoo, he resorts to a LOUD silence, indicated by this Toing!

But, for all those around the world who are deprived of this aural experience, here is something that takes you pretty close.

Watch each of these ToonDoos, and when you reach the last frame, the one with the punch-line that says “Toing”, hit the Play Toing button that sits right underneath it…
